A Spanish-style mansion in Beverly Hills, California has just sold for $26.8 million after being on the market for almost a year. The property is now owned by an entity tied to billionaire “Roger” Hua Liu, Vice Chairman and CFO of Feihe International Inc.
Feihe International Inc. is best known for being the largest and most famous supplier of baby formula in China. Headquartered in Beijing, the company makes up roughly 20% of the country’s market share. Liu’s personal net worth was estimated by Forbes to reach over $1.4 billion.
Despite being one of the biggest real estate transactions in Los Angeles so far this year, the purchase of the Beverly Hills mansion will not have made any significant dent in Liu’s fortune. The Spanish-meets-Mediterranean style home was originally listed at $33 million almost one year ago. The previous owner was former Russian oligarch Sergey Sarkisov, who made his fortune in the insurance industry and later became a film producer. Sarkisov owned the home in question and the smaller tennis court estate next door. He purchased both properties in 2011 and put them on the market last year. The smaller property was recently purchased for $15 million by actress, writer, and producer Mindy Kaling, who is best known for her work on popular television shows like The Office, The Mindy Project, and Never Have I Ever. Kaling reportedly plans to radically redesign and refurbish the home.
The larger property, purchased by Liu, was built in 2000 and consists of more than 15,000 square feet of living space, which is large even for the wealthy neighborhood. The house reportedly has ten bedrooms and thirteen bathrooms. The entire property measures almost 1.5 acres, and despite its size, is mostly hidden from the public behind large gates, a long driveway, and lush greenery. Aside from the main house, there is also an outdoor swimming pool in the backyard, a full-size tennis court, a two-story detached guest house, and a four-car garage. Between the garage and the driveway, the property has off-street parking available for up to fifteen vehicles. The grounds are also adorned with rose gardens and swaths of grassy fields. Unfortunately, there are no pictures of the inside of the home online, which is unlikely to change after Liu takes up residence.
Kaling is not the only celebrity to take up residence in the affluent neighborhood. Taylor Swift reportedly lives just down the street in her historic Beverly Hills mansion. Swift, who recently became a billionaire, purchased the property in 2015 for $25 million. The mansion was named a historic landmark in 2017, as it used to belong to movie mogul Samuel L. Goldwyn and was built in 1934. The Goldwyn family lived in the home for two generations before letting the house go in 2015. Swift has been working on restoring the home to its formal glory with the help of architect Monique Schenk. She owns several other properties including an apartment in the West Village of New York City, two penthouses also in New York City, and an estate in Nashville, Tennessee. Other celebrities who own homes in the Beverly Hills area include Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Aniston, and George Clooney.
