Flying opens many opportunities for individuals wishing to travel the world or who are simply in need of a quicker way to get from point A to point B. Yet, rising concerns about the safety of air travel, coupled with the often unsavory experiences of commercial flying, have left many jet setters fed up with the airline industry. Problems such as lengthy delays, cancellations, shrinking amenities, and unreliable aircraft have increasingly frustrated passengers. Hoping to alleviate these woes, Los Angeles-based startup Aero offers a hassle-free option that allows passengers to book seats aboard a 16-seat semi-private jet to luxury destinations.
As commercial air travel continues to face significant issues, Aero seeks to address the shortcomings that have plagued the industry. The startup aims to provide a more refined and enjoyable flying experience. According to Aero CEO Ben Klein, the company is well-positioned to tackle these problems and navigate the evolving aviation landscape. Klein’s vision for Aero is to restore some of the comfort and quality that has diminished in traditional commercial flights.
Understanding that some inconveniences of commercial flights are unavoidable, Klein recognizes a growing frustration among travelers regarding the lack of customer service. Aero aims to remedy these frustrations by reflecting the golden age of aviation in its service. The startup offers features designed to enhance the passenger experience, including a 24/7 concierge service that handles calls and a streamlined check-in process. Guests only need to arrive at Aero’s private lounge in Van Nuys, California, just 20 minutes before their flight, allowing them to avoid long lines and crowded terminals.
“We have top-of-the-line catering on all flights, including a premium bar and a wine partnership with Wally’s here in Los Angeles. So, I think it’s all those things that don’t really exist anymore in the airline world, even in first class, that make Aero stand apart,” Klein stated. This emphasis on luxury and personalized service is central to Aero’s approach, distinguishing it from conventional airlines and appealing to travelers seeking a more premium experience.
Since its founding in early 2021, Aero has seen impressive growth, expanding by 286 percent and now serving approximately 500 customers monthly, with some travelers booking multiple trips. The startup’s success is attributed to its commitment to high service standards and a careful approach to expansion. Klein notes that while Aero is on track to achieve its target revenue growth in 2024, the company is focused on maintaining its high experience standard. This includes launching new routes in Los Angeles and offering travel options to special entertainment and sporting events through additional charter services.
Klein, who took on the role of CEO just nine months ago, brings extensive personal aviation experience to Aero. Having earned his pilot’s license at age 18, Klein has also led an aviation regulatory practice as a lawyer before joining Aero as general counsel in 2021. His passion for aviation is evident in his active involvement with the company’s operations. Klein has flown as a first officer and as a captain, working alongside Aero’s COO who is rated in the ERJ135. This hands-on leadership approach allows him to understand the operation intimately and interact with guests directly. Klein believes that this involvement helps maintain a high level of knowledge about the business and ensures that safety remains a top priority.
“We’re in it. At the end of the day, it’s really about flying airplanes safely,” Klein asserts. His commitment to both operational excellence and customer satisfaction underscores Aero’s mission to redefine the flying experience and address the frustrations that have long plagued commercial air travel.
