In an industry saturated with quick fixes and surface-level solutions, Dr. Bre Hayward is taking a fundamentally different approach—one grounded in structure, science, and long-term outcomes rather than temporary results.

As the founder of Baby Hair® and the visionary behind Phase Theory Beauty Co.™, Hayward is not simply launching products. She is building a system designed to reshape how consumers understand hair health and how the beauty industry approaches it.

“Haircare has been approached backwards for years,” Hayward explains. “Most products are designed to treat what you see, not what’s actually driving the issue. Healthy hair starts at the scalp—that’s the foundation.”

That belief has become the cornerstone of Baby Hair®, a multicultural, scalp-first haircare brand designed for the entire family. Focused on restoring, maintaining, and supporting natural hair health, the brand emphasizes education, consistency, and ingredient-driven formulations over quick cosmetic results.

Hayward’s perspective did not originate in the beauty industry—it was shaped through a multidisciplinary career in healthcare that spans clinical practice, education, operations, and product development.

Beginning on the clinical side, Hayward developed a foundational understanding of patient care before transitioning into healthcare leadership, where she became deeply immersed in revenue cycle operations, analytics, and system optimization. Over time, her work expanded into product strategy, including roles that bridged data, operations, and technology as a revenue cycle analytics product manager.

This combination of clinical insight, operational discipline, and data-driven thinking is not commonly found in the beauty industry—yet it is precisely what defines Hayward’s approach.

“In an industry often driven by aesthetics, I bring structure, measurement, and intentionality,” Hayward says. “My background taught me to think in systems. You have to understand what’s happening at the root, measure it, and build solutions that actually work over time.”

That mindset has positioned Baby Hair® at the intersection of beauty and wellness, where long-term outcomes are prioritized over short-term fixes.

The brand has steadily grown its presence through direct-to-consumer channels and major online marketplaces, including Amazon, Walmart.com, and Shein. Along the way, it has gained recognition from both consumers and organizations that support innovation and minority-owned businesses. Hayward’s work has been backed by multiple grants, including the Houston Equity Fund Open for Business Grant in partnership with Wells Fargo and the Harris County LiftFund Small Business Grant.

For Hayward, those milestones are meaningful—but they are not the destination.

“They’re confirmation that we’re building something real,” Hayward says. “But the vision has always been much larger than a single product line.”

That broader vision is now taking shape through Phase Theory Beauty Co.™, the umbrella company under which Baby Hair® operates. Designed as a platform for expansion, Phase Theory Beauty Co.™ reflects Hayward’s long-term strategy to build a portfolio of brands and solutions across haircare, skincare, and wellness.

Rather than launching disconnected products, Hayward is focused on creating a cohesive ecosystem—one where each offering is rooted in a consistent philosophy: understand the root, treat the foundation, and deliver results that last.

“We’re building with intention,” Hayward explains. “Everything we create connects back to a larger system. It’s not about putting more products into the market—it’s about building something that actually works.”

That same level of intentionality defines Hayward’s leadership style. Drawing from years of experience managing complex systems and teams, she approaches business with a balance of vision and operational discipline.

“I don’t believe in building fast just for the sake of growth,” Hayward says. “I believe in building right. If the foundation is strong, everything else scales with it.”

Maintaining control of that foundation has been a deliberate choice. In an industry where founders often lose ownership of their vision early, Hayward has prioritized building sustainably while retaining alignment with her long-term goals.

“Every decision we make has to support where we’re going—not just where we are today,” she says.

Looking ahead, Hayward sees opportunity not only in expanding product lines, but in advancing education. Through Baby Hair® and Phase Theory Beauty Co.™, she is working to close gaps in consumer knowledge around scalp and hair health—particularly in communities where access to culturally relevant education has historically been limited.

“There’s a gap in understanding,” Hayward says. “When people don’t have the right information, they rely on trial and error. We want to change that by giving people the tools and knowledge to care for their hair properly.”

It’s an approach that reflects her broader mission: to move haircare from reactive to informed, from temporary to foundational.

“We’re not here to follow trends,” Hayward says. “We’re here to shift the way people think about haircare altogether.”

With a clear vision, disciplined execution, and a foundation rooted in science and systems, Hayward is building more than a brand—she is building an ecosystem designed for long-term impact.
